Today is one of the worst days in my province's history since the Halifax Explosion in 1917. Starting last night, someone went on a shooting rampage that started in Portapique, Nova Scotia (pronounced "port-a-peek"), near Truro, and it ended in Enfield, NS, not far from the Stanfield International Airport (aka Halifax Airport), leaving more than 10 people dead in its wake, including the gunman, and a 23 year veteran of the RCMP.
Here are some links to stories, from my own nation, and from some American news sources....

The live broadcast from the NS RCMP, featured on Global News:
I cannot thank our police officers enough for what they did to catch this person, and cannot imagine the heartbreak of all of the families who lost someone, notably Constable Heidi Stevenson's family. Two kids lost their mom, and a husband is now grieving the loss of his wife, thanks to this person (I refuse to name the shooter, out of respect for the families of all who were lost, and for the RCMP.... Please do not mention his name in the comments, just call him "the shooter". Thank you)
For the record, I live about 75 miles/120 km south of Enfield, so we were not in any danger. That said, if it hadn't been for some extremely vigilant and alert citizens, the RCMP may not have gotten to the shooter when they did. Thank you to all who reported seeing him!
Right now, most of the Nova Scotians I've talked to are in shock. Some are crying, like I am. So are a lot of my friends from around the world. This kind of thing isn't common in Canada at all, and for something like this to happen in sleepy Nova Scotia is almost unheard of. It's been touted as the worst shooting to happen in Canada since the Ecole Polytechnique shooting in Montreal way back in 1989. (I remember that, I was in Grade 10 at the time)
My heart goes out to all who lost someone in this weekend's shootings. Virtual hugs and so much love to all of you. Words cannot take away your agony.... So, so sorry everyone. ♥
Hugs and love to all of my fellow Nova Scotians tonight. We're going to be reeling from this for a long, long time. :(
