PREORDER! Stocking Stuffers from eXtasy Books, by Tim Smith, Diana Waters and Yours Truly!

Hi everyone! Hopefully all of you are staying safe, and are enjoying the peace of December. I don’t know about the rest of you, but I’m going to be really happy to see 2020 over with, even if I had two stories come out this year. Overall, it was a crappy year for a lot of us – especially my province of Nova Scotia.

Anyway, I’m proud to say I’m with good company in this year’s Stocking Stuffers from eXtasy Books. My friends Diana Waters and Tim Smith are also celebrating new releases in the collection, and all three of our stories are available for preorder now.

***All covers were done by Angela Waters of eXtasy Books and Devine Destinies***

Blurb

As an empath, Alek is ironically used to shutting people out—until, several days before Christmas, a one-night stand forces him to let someone in.

Being an empath is a lonely business, and Alek’s one-night stands do little to ease that feeling, even if he isn’t looking for anything more. He prefers to bury himself in his artwork anyway, or so he tells himself. That is until a young man named Jasper appears on his doorstep one December evening, threatening Alek’s careful control and making him want more than he’s ever dared ask for. Meanwhile, Jasper’s only two previous sexual encounters have made him more wary than hopeful—but tonight, he, too, may be getting more than he bargained for.

Excerpt

When Jasper, his voice sounding strained even to himself, asked for his wrists to be bound, Alek used a silk wrapping from a deck of Tarot cards on a shelf above the bed. It looped around Jasper’s wrists once, twice, three times before it became short enough to attach to the wrought iron bed frame.

“Are you sure you want this?” Alek didn’t sound worried, exactly—more like he just needed to be absolutely certain that Jasper understood, that he really didn’t want to back out at the last minute.

Despite the almost painful pounding of his heart, Jasper was sure. Alek was still half-clothed, his bare chest glowing richly in the lamplight. The tattoo curling over his left shoulder blade seemed to take on a sinuous life of its own. He was pale and long-limbed and self-assured, and here Jasper was, splayed beneath him naked and exposed like a sacrificial offering, arms stretched out over and behind him. Helpless. He was helpless, he reminded himself. The thought was at once both disconcerting and arousing.

Oh, Jasper was nervous all right—his heartbeat so rapid it was already making it hard to breathe—but even so, he knew exactly what it was he wanted. This time, it finally felt right.

He opened his mouth.

“Yes.”

Blurb:

In the city on the harbour, miracles happen.

It’s Christmas Eve. Ewan and Marti Campbell are hoping to have a quiet holiday season, their first as a married couple, and the last one before their new baby arrives.

A crisis at the real estate agency tosses a huge wrench into their plans, as does the sudden onset of Marti’s labour. As Ewan fights to get home before his child appears, more crises are flung at him. If he is to make it on time to help his wife bring their baby into the world, he’ll need a miracle
A big one.

EXCERPT:

Ewan wondered if a virus could be eating their files. “Jeff, tell everyone to do a full virus scan on their computers. I don’t care if they are turned on or not, you turn them on and just do it.” He stared at his best friend over the top of his glasses to emphasize his point. Jeff went from clear to blurry, which threw Ewan off a bit. He hated being nearsighted. It was a royal pain in the ass.

“Gotcha, boss. Run a malware scan, too?”

“Great idea and get an emergency tool for each of them, as well. Can’t be too safe,” Ewan replied. He did a quick calculation. Six computers in the back, one at the reception desk, and four laptops used on the road. Eleven computers, plus his, to be checked. It was going to be a long day unless Miranda finally showed her face.

Jeff nodded and disappeared, his footsteps thankfully louder than the holiday music drifting down the hall.

Ewan quickly set up his system to do a virus scan. When it started, he leaned back in his chair and glanced up at the clock. Ten AM. Marti should be helping his parents make Christmas Eve brunch by now. God, he really missed her. He should be home and helping her with all of it instead of sitting at work, fighting with a fucking local area network that refused to get off its ass and actually behave for once.

He closed his eyes and let out a long sigh. In the distance, a phone rang, and laughter drifted up the hallway. A festive air had swept through the Halifax location, even with a huge file missing. Ewan wished he could participate, even for a moment, but as part-owner and manager of their Halifax location, he was forced to focus on the predicament at hand.

He stretched his neck. He hated to miss a moment of his days off with Marti and his parents. It was the first time he had seen them since he and Marti had visited Alberta in April to expose a rat among them and formally announce their elopement. Talking via social networking, video calls, and email wasn’t the same as being with them. As an only child, his parents tended to fuss over him in a lot of ways but also understood his need to be his own person, even if it meant living across the country from them.

Hopefully, something would crack with the files and allow them to make headway so he could get home and hug his wife, tightly. Marti was his rock, and being away from her during a time when they were supposed to be together irked him.

His phone beeped, bringing him out of his reverie. He hit the button for the intercom. “What’s up, Sheryl?”

The semi-retired secretary sounded happy when she replied, “Marti is on line one. I thought you’d like to talk to her, since you’re stuck here with all of us.”

Sheryl had been a godsend to him in the past and was still one now. “Thank god. Put her through.” Just hearing Marti’s voice would keep him from losing it if anything else went wrong.

The phone made three quick trills and a green light flashed by line one. Ewan could not grab the receiver or hit the damn button fast enough. “Hey.”

“Hey. Any luck yet?” Marti’s sweet, soft tones echoed in his ears.

Ewan felt his frustration ebb slightly. There were some days he swore she had a radar for his emotions, and today was one of them. “Nothing yet. Did you hear from Miranda or Ralph?”

“No. I thought they were supposed to be handling this,” Marti said, her voice tight. She sounded exhausted and as frustrated as he was.

Ewan closed his eyes again and sighed. It wasn’t good if his normally serene and loving wife was not happy either. It spelled disaster with a capital D. “I’ll be home as soon as I can, I promise.” At least his parents were there with her. Between them, Joshua, Sybil and Dana, Marti should be distracted until he got home. Talking to her made him miss her more and wish he could kiss her senseless.

His wife let out a long breath that sounded like a soft moan. “Hopefully, it’s sooner than later. Something happened,” she said, her voice tightening more with each word.

That did not sound like his wife. Ewan wondered what was happening at home. “Good or bad?” he asked and let out a low growl.

“Both.” She cleared her throat. “Are you sitting down?”

Puzzled, Ewan glanced around the room. “Yeah, I am. I’m in my office.”

“Are you alone?”

His left eyebrow rose a notch. “What’s with the inquisition, sweetheart?”

“You know how my back has been bothering me for a few days?”

Ewan blinked. “Yeah. Is it worse?”

“Um, sort of.”

Bewilderment started turning to unease. “Sort of? Do you need to go to the ER?”

She let out a long, hissing breath. “No, but, oh. Hang on.” He heard rattling, and a low noise that sounded a lot like the phone dropping.

Panic started to rise in Ewan’s throat. She was hurt, and he wasn’t there to help her. “Marti? What’s going on?” he demanded. “Marti? Talk to me, dammit!”

His mother’s voice echoed in his ear. “Ewan? Sweetheart, Marti can’t talk right now.”

“What do you mean she can’t talk? What the fuck is going on, Mom?”

“Um, her water broke a couple of hours ago—”

Shock rippled through him. A woman’s water breaking meant she was in labour. “Say what? Why didn’t you call me earlier?” He leapt to his feet and almost tripped over the legs of his desk chair.

“She was hoping you’d be on your way home now. She knows you have work to do, but I insisted we call you now. Her contractions are about four minutes apart and getting stronger fast.”

No. There was no fucking way this was happening, not now. Ewan’s mind scrambled for the mental list he and Marti had prepared for her labour months ago. She wanted a home birth with a midwife, and Ewan was determined to give her that much. “Call Jennifer. Her number is on Marti’s cell phone.”

“She’s here, monitoring Marti. She’s using Joshua as a gofer.” There was a tinkle of laughter in his mother’s voice.

He suspected his mom was trying to calm him with the mental picture of Joshua kowtowing to the pint-sized Marti when she was on a tear. Normally he would have laughed, but this time, it wasn’t working. His mind kept skipping from the midwife to the crisis at work, to his wife needing him, and—

Where was Miranda? He was fit to strangle her for breaking her promise to handle any problems while he was on vacation. Today was a bust, thanks to her disappearing act, and he could easily miss his first child’s birth if she didn’t get her ass into either the Halifax office or company headquarters in Bridgewater.

TOGETHER WE STAND is LIVE and An Announcement!

Good afternoon everyone! It is with great honor and pleasure I say that TOGETHER WE STAND is now LIVE on ebook sites around the world! I have a huge bit of news, but that can wait... Let's talk TOGETHER WE STAND for a few minutes!

The Paperback version of the cover for TOGETHER WE STAND.

Together We Stand features the crème de la crème of Canadian romance authors. We have two USA Today best-selling authors on the roster, as well as plenty of Amazon Best Selling authors, and more! There are a few brand new authors, like my dear friend and fellow ‘Scotia girl K. Logan, and of course, someone who is somewhat experienced and finally getting her name out there – yours truly.

I admit, I wasn’t expecting to be a part of this when K. Logan first invited me to join the group participating. I have no experience in writing short stories, and I wasn’t sure if I could meet the deadline. My son has been home since March Break, and he is noisy. He has no concept of “do not yell at the TV or anything else when Mom is working”. Plus, he has a habit of pacing the kitchen when he is on one of his golf talk trips, and I find it extremely distracting. He is slowly getting better though. LOL

I found out about the anthology at the end of May, and tried to get things going. I had maybe a paragraph written, and set it aside. Things were so crazy with the rest of the school year being canceled, and other things happening. Finally, Hubby disappeared for a few hours during the first week of June, and I managed to get it finished – in three hours. It’s not long – 2900 words, and the limit was 5 K – but I guess it’s a sweet little story and up to publication standards. I submitted it about a week later, after a couple of my friends did beta reads, and my pal Cameron Allie (who writes for eXtasy Books and is also participating in the anthology) did a critique for me.

I hope everyone enjoys Mason and Vicki’s beginning in COVID’s Arrow. Will I write more of their story? I’m not sure yet. I am busy with writing two series (yes, I said two series - I'll be talking about the new one in a minute!), promoting my work, helping others with their promotions like book tours, working as a moderator in Book Carousel, and brainstorming with a lot of my fellow romance authors – trad and Indie published, as well as mentoring newbies. If I ever do, it won’t be for a long, long time.

Vicki has been half in love with her friend and co-worker, Mason, since she started working at a grocery store eight months ago. When a pandemic reaches the province, social distancing protocols are installed, and their friendship is put on hold. A break at work brings them back together, but will they have the time Vicki hopes to pursue her hidden desires?

****

I still can’t believe how things have picked up since I started doing edits in Away to Me with Trish a year ago. Last year this time, I was drooling over the gorgeous cover for that book, not realizing just how crazy things would be in the coming months. I’m no longer a newbie, and as odd as it feels to be a more experienced author, it is also amazing. I love helping new authors get their footing. I just wish I had an experienced author like Gabriella Bradley or Maggie Blackbird guiding me when I was working on Stricken’s initial draft back in 2012... Maybe then I would have been able to get published faster.

Then again, hindsight is 20-20, right? I’m published with an amazing traditional publisher, and their authors are the most supportive in the industry. I have made so many friends in the last few years. I’ve gained a lot of new fans in the last few months, and a ton of four and five star reviews!

I’m so honored to be a part of the eXtasy Books family! Love you all! *muwah!*

Speaking of eXtasy Books, I am finally ready to share information about my upcoming Christmas Stocking Stuffer (short story) coming in December 2020. This is the launch of a *new* series, and we’re revisiting some familiar faces! Take a peek, and get ready for a whirlwind, everyone!

V.J. Allison and eXtasy Books Present…

Here's a peek at my new story, and its blurb. Check it out!

You read that right: Ewan and Marti are back, and I am officially kicking off a *new* series, featuring the Campbell family!

Stricken was originally set as a standalone. However, I have gotten a few requests for a follow up with them in it somehow. At the time, I was too busy working on getting the Tri-Town Series prepped for publication so it was put aside and forgotten. When my fellow Book Carousel mods talked me in to trying to write a short story for this year's holiday run at eXtasy Books, I immediately thought we could pop in and see how things are going for Ewan and Marti. Anyone who has read Stricken knows how that one ended so it's perfect timing… Tee hee!

If you are a member of V.J.’s VIP Lounge, go take a peek of the excerpt I posted from Chapter One (unedited)!

I’ve already started Book 2 of the series (or is that Book 3??? I have to ask Jay, our Editor in Charge… OOPS!), and it is going to be set in another part of Nova Scotia. It will feature another Campbell cousin, and their journey to happy ever after. I have a plot planned out, from how they meet to their greatest main conflicts, and how they get their HEA. No worries, I hope to get things really moving soon, even with no school until September 8th. (I’d be fine with them doing online learning until January or later!). I’m able to write with my son home now, especially if he’s upstairs watching something on his DVD player… and stays QUIET. Thank heavens Hubby takes him out of the house once in a while so I can write without interruptions except for that goofy cat……..

I have Book 3 (4?) already started too but I’m putting that on hold for now. The second cousin’s story happens first and I want everything like the timeline to be perfectly in place. Something that happens in Book 2 triggers something in Book 3…. Only and a select few know what this one is about. I won’t share much in the group or any public spots until AFTER it is submitted to our Acquisitions Editor. I’m scared of jinxing it!

As for the Tri-Town Series, Book 3 is in the prelim stages. That one will be set in either Mahone Bay or Lunenburg. I’ve done two in Bridgewater, it’s time to showcase another town here. LOL I’m hoping to churn things up a bit in that one. But that will wait until I get Books 2 and 3 of the Feathered Tartan series wrapped up.

As for other works…I’m trying to get the ones I have ideas for out of the way first. I do want to write another standalone but we will see how things go over the next year or so. I’m not as fast as a writer as my dear friend Maggie Blackbird, and my writing isn’t quite as tight as hers is right now (she has a TON of stories out compared to me) but I’m a fast learner, and she’s taught me a lot. So have the other eXtasy Books authors I hang out with on a regular basis, and authors from other spots – Indie and trad published – and other Canadian authors.

It’s been one heck of a wild year so far, and it’s not over yet. I hope to be buried in my work for a long, long time before I come up for air!

Have a great weekend everyone… And don’t forget to get a copy of TOGETHER WE STAND if you haven’t already!

I leave you with Sweet Child O' Mine by Guns N Roses.

Keep your stick on the ice!

Summer Vacation? What's That? LOL

Hi everyone! Things have been so crazy here. I’ve been busy promoting the Together We Stand collection and gearing up for four takeovers in a week, among other things.

Together We Stand hits the shelves in less than 3 weeks, and we authors are getting excited. So far, the collection is about 100K in length, and if all of the stories promised are added, it’s going to be a lot longer. I’m doing a takeover in the Together We Stand Party Room group in Facebook on July 30th, at 8:30 PM EDT, and on August 1st at 1 PM in the Siren’s Lounge group on Facebook to promote my contribution, COVID’s Arrow, and the rest of the amazing stories in the anthology.

I am also gearing up to host a panel for Small Town romance authors in my group (VJ’s VIP Lounge) on July 27th, and one in the Swag-gering Shout Out Page group on July 31st from 3-6 PM EDT. I’ll be discussing all of my work during both days, and discussing upcoming stories.

I have a few quick updates before I get to the ultra-big news…

We are now in the Atlantic Provinces bubble. Anyone residing Nova Scotia, Newfoundland-Labrador, New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island can travel between the four provinces without having to self-isolate for two weeks. So if we wanted to take a trip to Charlottetown, PEI, we could do so, and only stay three days. Or spend the day in Moncton without having to isolate ourselves. That said, anyone coming in from outside of the bubble *must* isolate for two weeks before moving around freely. It’s to make sure the virus isn’t spread by anyone who is asymptomatic.

I don’t leave the house very often, so staying home isn’t new to me. With things opening up and our numbers being so low (less than 5 active cases as of July 15, 2020), Hubby has been taking Son shopping with him, which gives me a breather and a chance to write without worrying about interruptions… From anyone other than that goofy Maine Coon that is. So far, I wrote a short story in one weekend, and I’ve got another WIP started, one that’s part of a series. We plan on doing this for the rest of the summer if things continue to stay as is or open up more within the bubble.

I got more RAM (memory) for the computer. This one is a reconditioned one from the 00s that was rebuilt with Windows 10, and it only had 4 GB of RAM in it. It was slow by times, especially if I had a Word document up with something like Chrome at the same time. I ordered another 8 GB from Amazon, and it arrived last week. This baby is running a lot more efficiently and it’s so sweet. I love it. This is one step closer to me getting a graphics design business off the ground, which I hope to do sometime in the new year. I have to purchase a ton of font bundles, get an account set up at a *premium* (paid for) stock photos site, and get something much more powerful than GIMP. One thing at a time though. (Thank heavens for royalties… If I don’t spend them on the eXtasy Books site that is!)

We make a few changes to Book Carousel. Instead of genre days, we have theme days, and we’re now having fight clubs for upcoming New Releases, Covers, Taglines, etc. Go check it out!

I have also updated my website. Maggie Blackbird gave me a few suggestions, and I worked on them last night. It's not perfect, but it looks great. I removed all excerpts (you can read them for all of my books on eXtasy Books' site - go to my profile and check them out), added the tagline for the Tri-Town Series, and added more tabs. The home page is much sleeker. I'm considering changing the backdrop to the cover of my newest work published, but that can be done later, so can adding a photo gallery of my work as a graphics design artist.

Coming in December from eXtasy Books…

It is weird to be thinking of Christmas in July, but that’s what this little author did. I wrote a holiday short story for the eXtasy Books 2020 Stocking Stuffers in a single weekend – June 27th and 28th. I signed the contract for it on June 13th. I’m not really saying much about it for now, I want to savor knowing I have yet another story coming out with eXtasy Books.

I will say this: It is a continuation of one of my previously published works via eXtasy Books (which eliminates COVID’s Arrow – that one is published via my friend JA Lafrance). I’m going to leave it up to all of you to figure that out. Only a few people know the details, like my beta Erin H, my long-time pal Maggie Blackbird (who also writes for eXtasy) and my fellow moderators for Book Carousel, and maybe five others.

I’m going to share more details later this summer. Keep watching my blog, my pages in Facebook, Twitter, and my official website for any news.

Take care, and stay safe everyone!

I leave you with With Arms Wide Open by CREED.

I wrote the entire story in three hours on June 1st, and it was submitted on the weekend of June 5th.

(Hopefully!) Coming Soon from eXtasy Books…

I’m not just excited to be a part of the Together We Stand anthology… You see, I’m also going to be a part of the Stocking Stuffer (short story line) for the 2020 Holiday Season. This past weekend, I wrote an 11K long story that I hope to submit sometime next week. Why so early? The general publishing process at eXtasy Books and Devine Destinies is about four months long. So to have them publish a Christmas or Holiday story, things have to be submitted no later than August – preferably in July. It gives the editors and authors time to get it edited and revised right, and if each one has a unique cover, the Art Department plenty of time to make an awesome, eye catching design for it.

In fact, one of my fellow eX authors has her contribution submitted already, and a lot of us are prepping for our Valentine’s Day submissions now.

When you are an author who works with a publisher like eXtasy Books, you have to think of holidays coming about six months ahead of the game. It’s just the way the publishing world works, I guess.

As for the name of my short, and everything else… I’m not saying it yet. It’s still being read by my betas (although one has read it already and loved it!) and y’all know how closed mouthed I can be when it comes to my work that’s not submitted or even accepted by my publisher yet. I’d rather not risk jinxing anything, you know?

I will say this: It is revisiting one of my previously published couples, an extension of their story.

Other than that, mum’s the word. Only a scant few people know what’s going on… And it was applauded by one of my best pals at eXtasy Books (one of my best pals, period!) So if you’re in that handful, smile.

To my fellow Canucks: Have a happy and safe Canada Day!

To my American fans, friends, family, and followers: Have an amazing and safe Fourth of July weekend!

I leave you with one of my favorite songs of all time… “Closer to the Heart” by RUSH and the late great Neil Peart.
