Rock N Rolling With It

Fall is in the air, and today was proof of it. We had frost last night, and Son and I just about froze at the bus stop despite wearing our spring/fall jackets.

It was still rather crisp at 10 a.m., when I decided to get myself offline, get my favorite hoodie on, dig out the old MP3 player and get outside for a bit. I wanted to capture some of the fall foliage with the camera, so it turned into a walk down to the stream and back, about 10 minutes each way.

It's not very colorful down this way. Our summer came late, so did the warmer weather, and things have been thrown way off. We do have some colors this year, but things are either still green or going straight to brown for the most part.

Some of the plants growing alongside of the road are brighter than the trees this year so far...

But that's okay. I still got out of the house for a bit, reset my brain from "online mode" to "offline/relaxing mode" and enjoyed the crisp, sweet smelling air.

This gorgeous flower is in full bloom, down by the stream. I saw it and couldn't help taking photos of it...

I was so invigorated when I got into the house, that I opened up the windows, and booted up Word. I was planning on working on the rest of the supporting cast and other names today, but things got a little... weird....

It seems that I'm not completely burned out as an author after all. It took seven months of being ill, stressed out, and other things, but I'm finally over that hump and back into things.. I hope.

Yes, the drought seems to be over finally... "Thirteen" officially has a main manuscript file, and there is one complete scene in it, the opener.... And the second one was started.

I don't remember much about the time I was writing that first scene. It's a bit of a blur... But it looks okay for an ultra rough draft so far, and it is within what I wanted for it... I may add or remove stuff from it over time, but that's normal. I got its rough draft started and hopefully something will come out of this, I do not want this to be just a trickle and stop again... I want to keep writing.

It felt awesome to be writing again, even if it was only 600 words. It's better than nothing, right?

At this point, I think I have most of the main players picked out... I have a few other things to create and name, but I can do that once I'm a little more into this one. I just hope some of my pals are up to brainstorming names for different things with me when the time is right...

I did get a few things done with some of the character bios, notably the leading male and some of the supporting cast even though writing took over the research and setting personality traits and so forth.

If I can get 500 words once a week, I'm going to be happy... Anything is better than not writing!!

Have a great weekend everyone, and if you are celebrating Canadian Thanksgiving, have a wonderful and safe holiday and long weekend!

On a Roll, and a Milestone!

Another week has gone by and things fell into place a lot more smoothly than I had hoped...
Tuesday was a writing day for me and I dove into Chapter 9, breezed through the remainder of that chapter and got into Chapter 10.
Wednesday afternoon, Hubby took our son bowling so I had a few hours to myself again. Of course, I went offline and began writing again. I finished Chapter 10 and started Chapter 11.
Today was another writing day and although I thought things would move slowly due to having a cold and the nature of this part of the manuscript, but I guess the story is really starting to suck me in because I did a lot more today than I had hoped to get done! Chapter 11 was completed before I realized it and around 12:30 p.m. Atlantic time, I did a copy and paste to splice in a scene!
I'm not going to say what it was about, but it's one I had written up back in January over five hours and only three pages or so... The one I had a VERY strong image of it in my mind and had to work around my son's demands and him hanging around the computer because school was canceled that day.
Now, I had to do a LOT of tweaking with it to get it to fit into the story smoothly. I had originally had it set at a location that wasn't exactly logical for the part of the province this chapter happens to be set within. So I took the time to really tweak it until it was perfect and then polished it up so everything was perfect--after I had spliced it into the main manuscript file. I didn't want to mess around with the original file itself because I wanted to have it for my own records so I waited to do the final tweaks/edits after it was added.
It looks good and after things were smoothed out and perfected, I continued on in the main manuscript file.
I'm now halfway through Chapter 12. Today alone, with the splice, I added about 11 or so pages worth of stuff!
No wonder why my eyes feel like they're being ripped out of their sockets...
I'm not sure exactly how many pages were added this week, but I'm pretty sure it's over 20, if not closer to thirty.
No wonder why I feel like I was dragged through a knothole crossways! I managed to get a lot done this week, and I'm very pleased with all of it!
Of course, all of this stuff does need work. It is a first draft, after all, and things will be taken out, added in, etc over time and when FP goes into its second draft.
I'm thinking this story is going to be close to the length of its predecessor, and if it is, oh boy... It's going to be one heck of a duology with both books!
I haven't done a word count on the main manuscript file yet but I'd be willing to bet it's over 50,000 words, if not closer to 75,000... And that does NOT include the gem of an idea my beloved mentor shot at me back in March! *BLINK*
Yes, I can see this one being as long as its predecessor even if it does cover a much shorter time span...
Anyway I hope y'all have a great weekend! I know I'll be avoiding looking at Word a lot due to eyestrain from working all week. Hopefully the eyes will be better by the time Monday rolls around...

Rewrite and a Roller Coaster Ride...

School has been back in session only a little over a week but things are picking up steam when it comes to my writing. I'm officially back into writing mode almost constantly and new ideas keep popping into my mind without warning.
Yesterday was one of the best writing days I have had in months... Word count wise, it was an average day, a little over 3000 words, but the quality of it is what I'm referring to...
I had written Chapter 30 for NR a few weeks ago during one of the few "all nighters" writing sessions I managed to squeeze in during summer vacation and after reading it over and discussing it with my mentor a few times, it didn't "feel" right to me... I admit during the time I was actually writing up Chapter30, it did feel right and I thought it was a brilliant idea... Until I remembered it was a situation that was used so many times in other romance novels... The "let's pretend we're a couple to keep others from bugging us" scenario. It would have worked for NR's second half but the problem is that I would rather use something that wasn't used a zillion times in a romance novel.
So after careful consideration, I 86'ed most of C30, starting from a spot where I could "switch gears" easily without having to rewrite the entire chapter. The characters were already in the public place I wanted them to be and the first few lines of dialogue were very general so it was easy to go from there.
However, the concrete plan I had for the rewrite took a few turns and I went with them. What is now Chapter 30 isn't ultra long like some of the other chapters in this story but I think it takes both the characters and the reader on one heck of a roller coaster ride... The biggest one of the entire book so far, before the last chapter or so that is (I have already decided how things will end in it and am slowly building to that point!)... I was getting frustrated with myself for taking my time in getting things moving again with different things but with this chapter, I managed to finally get things on the go again and will be getting things moving even more in Chapter 31. I'm still trying to decide the best way to proceed in that chapter though. I have several ideas but I'm not sure which order to put them in or how long to let the characters "breathe" before pushing them on the coaster again!
I'm still editing Chapter 30... I did notice some grammatical errors yesterday and saw a few "bare" spots where more detail could be added so I played around with that after Son was home from school.
If things go as planned, I'll have TWO writing days a week for the next couple of weeks... Hubby is now working the shorter day shift mid-week along with his full shift on Friday daytime... So y'all KNOW what I'll be doing during those days! LOL
Have a wonderful weekend everyone! I'm also starting to get a good idea of what to put into my next Autism blog entry... I know I promised to have one around the beginning of summer but with the way things were going here, and the fact I didn't have much to report, it kind of slipped onto the back burner. Sorry about that!

Back in the Writing Saddle Again, WOOT!

It's official: I am no longer chomping on the monitor, wanting a full day to work on NR!
School started yesterday and today was my first full day alone in two months, so I took advantage of both Hubby and Son being gone and dived head first into the writing.
The gap between where I had left off in the main manuscript file and the MBECWA file was driving me crazy all summer long. I did a quick reread on the first fifteen and a half chapters and jumped into wrapping up Chapter 16. I was determined to finish the darn thing, come hell or high water!
It was slow going at first but thanks to my determination and stubbornness, I managed to get Chapter 16 done!
When that was finished, I realized that I could finally do two things I've been unable to do until now... Splice in that darn MBECWA file!
After that was spliced in, I also did something else... I spliced in what I have written up so far in Part 2 and now have everything I have written up into the Main Manuscript file.
Today's actual writing was only 5 pages and 2350 words worth, upping the main manuscript's main file at 135 pages before the splice... After the two splices, that number jumped to 248!
After Son got home from school, I continued to work on NR, editing, which doesn't require as much concentration as something like the actual writing does. I had not inserted any chapter breaks into Part 2 yet because I wasn't sure exactly which chapter it would start off on or exactly where they would be, so I worked on that while I was making supper and into this evening.
I am now officially at the start of Chapter 31. Everything I added today, from the new material to both splices made the main manuscript file jump a full fifteen chapters!
I am so cross eyed right now that I'm seeing quadruple but at least I managed to get things moving with NR again. I was so scared I was going to lose the rest of the story and I didn't want to do it, I want this story to be told, one way or another.
By the way, my mentor got word of her manuscript from the publisher she mailed it to a few weeks ago and they are not interested. *SIGHS* So she's going the self publishing route for now. I already have her Facebook author's page set up and it will go live when she has everything set up and Book 1, "Homecoming", is officially up for sale. I'll let everyone know here and include links for her FB page and the book itself (for people with e-readers and the computer app that allows a desktop/laptop user to read e-books) when the time comes.
It's been one heck of a crazy summer vacation and now that it's over, I'm wondering exactly where it went. It moved by so quickly and now we're on the cusp of autumn already. I'm not complaining about it, I'm still amazed school is back in session when it feels like only yesterday I was looking over Son's final report card from his Grade 1 year.
Have a wonderful weekend everyone!

Late Nights, Word Processor and Coffee...

It's been quite the start to summer vacation...
Friday saw Son, Hubby and I going to the school for the last day festivities and to pick up Son's report card. I'll describe more about the day in my next Autism blog update, which I'm hoping to write up very soon.
Well, the writing isn't progressing as fast as it was during the last part of the school year but it IS progressing slowly but surely.
The last two nights (Tuesday and Wednesday), I stayed up till after 2 a.m. pounding away on the keyboard and trying to get back into the writing after a full week's worth of inactivity when it came to adding new material. I had been editing and rereading things a lot but hadn't added anything new.
Tuesday saw me getting things moving again in the Main Manuscript file... I was at a standstill in that file for a while and wanted to get things moving in it again so I could finally splice in everything that I have written up that comes after that... Which is over 100 pages worth of stuff!! This will almost double the amount of material and pages in the Main Manuscript and really show me how close I am to actually FINISHING this dratted story!
Last night, I was working on the Main Manuscript file and I realized that Chapter 14 was going to be a VERY long chapter so I read what it had in it and found the right place for a chapter break, meaning what I worked on the last two nights is now a FULL chapter and is now Chapter 15!
Chapter 15 sees a big event happening, and is the lead in to where things start hitting roadblocks for the main characters... I'm not sure but I'm thinking Chapter 16 may be the last one I add in this spot and then the MBECWCA file will be spliced in... Right after that will be the file that contains what I have written up so far for the second half of the story!!
Looking at things, I'm thinking I'm about 2/3s of the way finished Draft 1 and with a little luck, help from my husband to allow me to have private time once in a while and if the universe allows it, I may have that gap filled in and all of the next splices to come done by the end of summer vacation. I hope so at least! I know it's 11 months away and things could be done before it but I'm wanting Draft 1 to be finished by the end of June in 2013. I don't think that's too much to ask considering how close I am to actually wrapping it up!
On a sad note, our beloved fluffy white cat, Noelle, crossed the Rainbow Bridge this past Saturday, June 30th. She was almost 17 years old. We miss her horribly, myself especially, because she would lay on top of the computer tower when I was on the computer and on my lap when I was watching television in my big comfy armchair. There's a hole in our family again and we're now trying to adjust to being back to having only one animal friend living with us again... Something that we haven't had here since January of 2010, we had Birdie living here and adopted Nanny's dog Sargent in February of 2010. Amber is still young, healthy, happy and laid back, she's now being so spoiled rotten from all of the attention and love she's been getting. She is looking for Noelle but seems to be slowly adjusting to be our "one and only". We are not planning to adopt any more pets at this time but who knows, we may have the perfect furbaby for us land in our laps sometime.
I'm hoping to get back into things with writing again next week between real life, kitty insanity (thanks to Amber) and guzzling coffee at 11 p.m. so I can stay up late and actually work!
Have a great weekend everyone!

Milestones!

Today was another great day for me... Another milestone has been reached!
The first draft of the MCEWCA file is officially DONE as of 2:10 p.m. Atlantic Time! *THUD!!*
Five hours, five pages and 3397 words today alone, it's DONE and I will be ready to do ANOTHER splice in the near future!!
The MCEWCA file happens right before the MMG file... But the MMG file needs some work and new stuff added to it before I can get the two combined into one larger (make that HUGE!) file to splice into the main manuscript file. The main manuscript file is almost up to the point where I can splice the MCEWCA file into it, I'm thinking about 5 or so more chapters to go in the main file before that happens... Yeah, I have a gap that needs to be filled before I can do a splice there! LOL I'm hoping to start attacking that tomorrow morning if I can figure out how to close the gap between where I left off in Chapter 12, the FLSD2 file (yes, yet another splice to be done!) and then the combined files of the MCEWCA and MMG files! That will cover probably close to half of the story once everything is written up and added in, if not more than that!! *BLINKS!*
I'm starting to bounce around ideas for the MMG file now because that does need some work and since I'll be splicing that in hopefully before school gets out at the end of June, or over the summer, and I really want to get this *CENSORED* story finished as soon as I can! Ideas for the stuff that happens after the MMG file are starting to flow too but they are more vague right now... They'll come to me when the time is right. :)
You know, I look back on the past year and see how much the writing has progressed. A year ago, I barely had anything written up for Untitled #7, barely ten pages worth and some of it was 86'ed or rewritten, even though the original idea for it came to me in June of 2010, and now I'm closing in on having the first third of its first draft out of the way. I'm not going to say why it has taken me two years to get to this point when I should have been past it long before now, but I will say that I will never make that mistake again. I learned the lesson, big time!, and am now happy focusing my attention on Sanctuary and MW, my family, my true friends, my pets and of course, my writing. I've come a very long way this past year and I'm glad to finally see something go into the past for good while I move forward with my life... I missed out on so much but now that I once again have my head on straight, I'm seeing the forest again, the bloody trees are no longer getting in my way!
Have a great Thursday everyone... I'll be back soon with yet another writing update!

Bridging Another Gap and a Happy Dance!!!

As the title states, I am one very happy little writer at the moment!
Hubby decided that he was going to run some errands and go spend some time with some of his various friends today, which meant that I had a few unexpected hours of alone time at the house.
In my previous blog entry, I talk about a huge confrontation between two characters that would bridge the gap between the MCE and the C&A files... Since Hubby left so early this morning and told me he wasn't sure what time he'd be home, I decided to see if I can get that out of the way because it's been driving me bonkers these last few days since I worked my way up to that part this past Friday.
Today, amongst a LOT of kitty insanity (I was fit to shove both cats outside at one point!), a longtime friend calling and my own body rebelling against me for guzzling so much coffee, I managed to get the ENTIRE confrontation written up, edited the C&A file to fit and got it all spliced together in what I will call the MCEWCA file!! It's only three pages worth, mostly dialogue, and it took me a LOT of thinking to get it all done just right, but it's done and off the "to write" list finally!! *THUD!*
I'm happy because I have wanted to get this done for almost a week and today was my first chance to get it DONE and move on in either the main manuscript file or another part of the story... Already ideas are forming for the part that happens after what was the C&A file so I'll probably be working on that tomorrow while Hubby's working (day shift) and maybe into Friday... It all depends on how far I get tomorrow! LOL
Hubby and Son are home now so I'm going to put off doing another reread/edit on it until the morning, when my brain will be fresh and so I don't have to worry about so many distractions, other than the cats that is! *giggles!* I'll probably go to bed nice and early tonight so I can be well rested and ready to go as soon as Son is on the bus tomorrow!
Have a great Wednesday everyone!

"Word Processor, Brain, Coffee and Kitty Insanity?"

What a week!
Hubby worked two full day shifts this week, meaning I had two full days to write... Or so I thought...
Wednesday started out normally for a day that Hubby starts work at 6 a.m. We got up to get Son ready for school, waved to Hubby as he drove down the driveway, got ready for school with no problems and I quickly finished getting caught up with things online after seeing Son get on the bus.
It wasn't until after I went offline and tried to write that things went downhill....
I made the mistake of putting a chicken breast into the toaster oven to roast while I was writing that morning so I'd have it for lunch later that day. Noelle, our fluffy white cat, is VERY fond of chicken and started going nuts when she saw me getting it ready. She howled and basically sat on my lap the entire time it was in the oven and would NOT settle down even after I gave her a few tidbits off of it before it fully cooled. I shared it with her and she was still going bonkers, meowing and smooching my arm constantly the ENTIRE time I was trying to write and basically threw me off of my creative mode. I could NOT concentrate while that furball was howling (she has this VERY weird meow, it sounds like someone stepped on her tail when in reality no one is near her!). I had planned to wrap up Chapter 10 that day and splice in the AST scene but neither happened. I was NOT impressed and was fit to toss Noelle outside in the rain so I could get a little peace and quiet! After things settled down, when Son got home (figures!), I hoped and prayed she and Amber would be good the next day I had scheduled to write, which was today.
Today started off with a LOT of kitty insanity. Hubby left for work about 5:15 this morning and the instant he was out of the driveway, Amber went NUTS, pouncing on everything in sight, zooming around the kitchen and making her "I'm silly!" noise, which is a mix of a meow, a chirp/trill and a grunt. It's pretty loud and very distinctive and it makes me want to hide under my desk because that tells me I'll get ran over by this 15 pound cat acting like she's lost her mind at some point!
Thankfully, she settled down after a few minutes. I went upstairs to wake up my son and when I came down, Noelle was on top of the monitor. I moved her, that problem was solved.
After Son was on the bus and I started to bounce around ideas for the latter part of Chapter 10, the cats decided to get into a mini cat-fight right under my computer chair. *head desk!* I broke it up, thankfully no one was hurt, and things were fine after that.
Today, everything went smoothly... I started writing and both cats fell asleep, one was on top of the armchair in the living room and the other one claimed the picture windowsill.
Things went in a different direction than I had planned though... I was thinking the AST file would be going in at the end of Chapter 10 but the more I thought about it, the more I felt like it wasn't the right place to put it and it should go in later on in the story... But something else that was only an idea felt perfect for the latter part of Chapter 10 so I wrote that up and Chapter 10 is now DONE! (or I hope it is anyway! LOL)
It took several (six) cups of half caff coffee, lots of turning the air blue when I couldn't find the right words for things, and lots of me pacing the driveway smoking like a freight train while trying to work things out in my head, but I did get that part finished today! I'm not sure on word count because I was editing the (small) part I wrote up on Wednesday but it is over 5 pages worth, dialogue and descriptions are both present in the part I wrote today and Wednesday. It may be moving along a lot more slowly than I had hoped but it IS getting done with each paragraph I add to it.
There is still a LOT to be added to this story, it's not even a quarter of the way finished and I know at this rate I will not have it done by my original goal of the start of 2013... But I will get it done. Better late than never, right?
I hope y'all have a wonderful Friday the 13th and a fun and happy weekend!

Out of the Blue...

Sorry I haven't been updating this blog a lot lately everyone. It seems real life had gotten a little crazy here and I haven't had much time to write since my last update.
Anyway...
Sometimes things can hit you out of the blue. In my case it was something for Untitled #7 that happens about 7/8 of the way through the story and I had to get it down before I lost it, which has happened way too many times in the past.
What hit me was some dialogue between the main characters, an argument to be exact. I can't go into detail on why they were arguing because that would give at least part of the story away (and I'm pretty private on what the storylines for my writings are!), but I will say that my fingers were not as fast as my brain was going at one point and I had to backtrack things in my mind several times to get it all down the way I wanted it.
I don't know the word count for tonight's quick writing... I had to write it up in script form to get it down before I lost it. It's not even a page long but it's only dialogue and will have the actions, the feelings, etc, added to it in the future.
Last night I DID get more added to Chapter 4 by the way... 650 words worth and two hours of writing after Son crashed and I was waiting for Hubby to get home from work. Not a lot but it's better than nothing. *winks* I'm hoping to get more done this week and I hope things go back to NORMAL here at the house so I can dive back into my work!
I hope y'all had a wonderful weekend and we have LESS than three weeks to go until Spring arrives! WOOT! :)

Rewrites and Continuing On...

Hello everyone, sorry I didn't update y'all about the writing until now but between real life things happening and things being busy online the last couple of days, it slipped my mind until now.
Friday was productive writing wise... I had decided to rewrite a "build up" scene to something in the MMG file but couldn't quite get into it so I went into the Main Manuscript file and started writing up Chapter 4, which went pretty good despite hitting a few "snags" and the fact that the cats decided to go BONKERS on me at every opportunity.
The bulk of the writing was a confrontational scene between the leading man and his boss... The reader will have an idea that there is more to it than meets the eye at first and their suspicions will be confirmed at some point during the scene. It is *very* rough but it's looking good so far!
Word count for that particular area so far: 2991, which isn't bad considering how many times I was distracted by a goofy cat or had to move one of them because they had decided that sitting on top of the monitor and swishing their tails across the screen was more important than allowing me to write anything! *rolling eyes!* I did do some editing, etc on that scene too after the guys crashed but not a lot. I'll be doing more on it when I get a chance to this coming week while Hubby's working and Son is in school.
Have a wonderful week everyone!

Bridging the Gap....

Today I had four full hours of writing time... Son was in school and Hubby was running errands so I dove right into Word the instant I heard the car pull out of the driveway this morning. I wanted to continue on where I had left off in the Main Manuscript file from Friday but it just wasn't clicking with me today for some wild reason. I tried working in the MMLTG file, nothing new came into the brain... I skipped from file/document to file and finally an idea for the MMG file came to me...
There was a gap between the first part of the file/document and a scene I had written up way back in November (3 months and six days ago to be exact!) and that gap was bugging the daylights out of me. So I decided it was time to close/bridge the gap and although it was hard and frustrating to do by times, I managed to get things tied together and hopefully in a way that doesn't seem like I was rushing the story along or dragging things out. This part may be an essential part to the leading lady's character growing and changing but I don't want to drag things out too much!
Today's word count: 1491, although I did add a few things here and there to the file in other spots so it's over 1500 words today... I'm still pleased with this even though it's not one of my best days! LOL
I'll probably be editing things here and there before I let Son and Hubby have the computer after supper... It seems that like other writers out there, I can't leave things alone for a minute... Which can be classed as a good thing because that means the more one works on a story, the better it can be and the faster one can finish it to their standards!
Have a great Wednesday everyone and if you're a CSI fan like I am, don't forget about the newest episode on tonight!

A (Very!) Quick Writing Update...

Today I had four hours to get my behind in gear and get a little bit of writing done.
I worked on Chapter 3, which was finishing off the scene at the start of it and continuing into the next one, which is only halfway finished at this point.
Total word count of new material today: 1052...
But...
I also did some editing in Chapter 2, ADDING a few things here and there, like descriptions, feelings, etc so that brings my word count closer to 11oo words for the day, possibly more.
I'm going to have a full seven hour day to write later this week... In the meantime, I'll be editing, etc when the guys are around and the instant I'm alone and feeling up to it, I'll be adding more stuff in!
Have a wonderful Tuesday everyone!

Building on the Foundation....

To be blunt, HOLY SMOKES...
Today I was going to get work done on Untitled #7 even if it killed me. For a while, I wasn't sure if I was going to have the house to myself for the full day or not but somehow, some way, the universe decided to give me a break and allowed me to have a full seven hours home alone...
The expansion/building upon the foundation of Chapter 2 has been nagging me for ages but until recently, I had no idea on how to expand upon it.
I went looking through various files and came across a part that I had originally used as a "build up scene" to the first kiss between the main characters, but I 86'ed it because it didn't feel "right" for the build up scene and I wrote something else that is more fitting instead. The now 86'ed scene gave me an idea on how to create "chance meetings" between the characters, how they start to get to know each other and become friends before they become so much more.
I started writing up outlines for various "meet ups" and slowly things started gelling. I went offline and started typing away.
After two cups of green tea, three cups of coffee, countless swear words flying from my lips, countless cigarettes smoked and over five hours worth of burying my brain in #7, I came out of the writing fog and stopped to take a look at what I had written.
It covers 7 pages in Word, there is a lot of dialogue, a lot of descriptions and 2,936 words worth of NEW material added to Chapter 2!! At this point, C2 is 3,019 words long and it's going to get a little longer... I still have to finish the scene I was working on when Son's bus arrived and I'll probably toss in a few more "getting to know you" scenes and other stuff that shows how hard the main characters are falling for each other, etc, before I move on to C3 and otherwise. I don't want the chapters to be TOO long but not too short either, I have to find the right balance without cutting things off abruptly or rambling in each chapter.
My brain is mushy but I'm very pleased with what I managed to do today... It was what I've been trying to do for months, ever since I wrote the "base/foundation" for that chapter. Now that I know which way I'm going to go with things, I'm going to continue chugging along and see what other good ideas I can come up with in the meantime.

Better Than Nothing...

Well, yesterday wasn't my most productive writing day but I did get a little work done on Untitled #7...
I started out by editing some of the documents for that particular manuscript.... I reread the MMLTG file and discovered that I had started going into a different direction than I had originally planned... Sometimes this is okay, like in the MMG file, but in this case, it was NOT working. So I have removed the part that wasn't going to work, and it is now saved in a file specifically set up to keep the parts/paragraphs I've removed for future reference... I like to do that for my own records, that way I can see how the story evolved and all of the "wrong ways" I went after it's done.
I wanted to continue on from the part that was left but that wasn't gelling so I edited/reread other parts of the manuscript... Seeing all of those red (misspellings) and green (grammatical mistakes) drove me nuts so I also did a spell/grammar check on all documents that I had opened yesterday.
I finally settled down enough to actually write... Although it wasn't my best day yet, I did manage to get 538 words worth of new material added to the Main Manuscript file of that story. I would have done more but by the time I had gotten really into things, it was time to head to the bus stop. *SIGHS* At least I did manage to get new stuff added and continue on from where I had left off in that document!
No, I still haven't added anything to the "base" of Chapters 2 and 3 that I had started a while ago, that is still on the "to do list" but there is no rush for it right now, I don't have half of the story written up yet, so I'll tackle that when things "gel" in my mind for it... Whenever that will be!
Hubby works tomorrow daytime and it's looking like there WILL be school for a change so I'm planning on taking the entire day to see if I can get a LOT of new stuff added to that story... Hopefully I'll have a very productive day tomorrow!
Have a wonderful Thursday everyone!

"A-HA!"

Yesterday was not very productive, new material wise, in Untitled #7... I did get a little work done on the MMLTG file but not as much as I got done on Wednesday.
However, sometimes the least productive days can have their moments!
I have been trying to figure out just when, how and where to introduce the reader to a new character in the story... It's not a central player BUT they are a catalyst for some events that happen in the story. I had created the character in my Ideas for Characters and Personalities file back in the summer and didn't know where to bring them in.
Yesterday while I was adding a few more paragraphs to the MMLTG file, it hit me that where I was in that file was the PERFECT spot to introduce this character! The last line I wrote yesterday introduces them by their name and who they are in relation to someone central in the story. I know how the character is going to act, relate with others and exactly what they look like. I'm just hoping I can get across exactly how I want to portray this character... But then again, I do tend to be ULTRA critical of my own work... Hehehehee....... *sheepish grin!*
I am unable to expand on things today, due to school being cancelled because of that *lovely* [/sarcasm] snowstorm we had yesterday but that's okay.. If Son keeps quiet for a while and decides to do his own thing quietly, I may be able to sneak in some major writing time later... Or I just may write after Hubby takes him to bed this evening.
Have a wonderful Friday everyone, and a Very Happy 12th Birthday to my oldest niece!
